West Virginia’s state flower is the Rhododendron. This Macro picture was taken from a Rhododendron bush that is about 25 feet tall. These are just a few of the wonderful fields of flowers that can be found in West Virginia. In Dolly Sods, if you go at the right time of year for about 1 or 2 weeks you will find fields of Wild Azaleas and Rhododendrons. The entire forest smells like perfume and your eyes are blessed beyond your imagination.
West Virginia is also notorious for the abundance of Dogwood trees that abound in early Spring. Multiple varieties and sizes can be found throughout the state. One of my favorites is the Giant Pink Dogwood it can be as large 30 feet tall. There are several types of birds in West Virginia you should read our guide to identifying them.
